Doug: We looked at several places. This was certainly what we wanted. Two things made us feel comfortable, one of them was the tie to Augustana, it gave us confidence.

Joyce: The second thing - our daughter wanted us closer, she said, “this would be so handy mom.” We helped her with all her flowers last year. We get a little bit of the outside too! Even here with the walking path, Doug is a walker – it’s just really handy to do the walk. It’s a nice walk around the pond.

Doug: There’s a lot of amenities, a lot of nice things about the place, it’s a beautiful dining room and that’s a wonderful place for people to gather and a beautiful library and activities room. The shop is starting to come alive – some of the guys are working down there. And these are all things that when you first see them, when people come in to the place they say “Wow this looks nice!”.

For me the heated garage, it’s out of the weather, it’s a heated garage and it’s always warm when you get in it. That’s for me really worth a lot … that’s a wonderful thing. There’s carwash with hot and cold soft water, it’s very easy to wash your car in there, just put a little soap on there.

Joyce: I think, one of the things, the friends, we make friends, we become family, we kind of like take care of one another. It’s like, well, we go out into the dining room and there’s always somebody out there to visit with and you’re not lonely by any means but that’s only if the individual wants to do that.

Doug: In apartment living the opportunity for us to enjoy it, the opportunity for us to make it something and make it a family and do those things that our good lord wants us to do in the first place, is help our neighbors, that’s our number one issue, the second commandment that Christ gives us is to help your neighbor, love your neighbor, and this apartment living gives you that opportunity – it’s there, all you have to do is do it!
